Why?

Modern quad+ cores CPUs could make it worse: it is now way too easy to create a hard to find errors: incorrect spinlocks, deadlocks or livelocks. Those could easily consume most of the CPU cycles, making other processes starving. This is especially nasty when happens on a terminal server. Besides CPU saturation, excessive network, memory and FSB accesses by some application could also put other processes to the knees. While current version of FasterWin offers only limited solution to this problem, we am planning to add more features soon.

How it works?

Yes, this is yet another CPU quota service. It is very similar to ThreadMaster and several commercial (and very expensive) tools. Unlike ThreadMaster, it has a GUI. It is also free, unless you need extended features. If you do, it's priced rather moderately. Unlike 2 other freeware tools that are advertised to do the same job, FasterWin does not tamper with process priorities. This is valid technique, but not as affective as approach used in ThreadMaster and FasterWin. When one runs a multithreaded CPU test tool, like one that goes with Intel Threading Tools under either FasterWin or priority based tools, there is a clear difference in computer responsivenes.
